Gum Recontouring

An estimated 14% of women and 7% of men have excessive gingival exposure when smiling. Gum contouring, which reshapes areas where tissue extends lower than others, results in a straighter, more symmetrical smile. While excess gum tissue is removed with a scalpel in traditional surgery, modern surgery is done with a high-powered laser, which uses light energy to remove the tissue. Compared to traditional gum contouring, which often requires sedation in addition to a local anesthetic, laser gum contouring is a minimally invasive, safer, nearly painless and more precise method for fixing gummy smiles.

Gum Grafting

According to numerous studies, as many as 50% of adults have some degree of gum recession. Also called gingival grafting, this procedure involves carefully placing a small amount of new tissue in an area with inadequate gum tissue. This is done to prevent worsening gum recession or to cover exposed tooth root surfaces. While donor tissue can come from a variety of sources, it’s frequently taken from the palate (roof of your mouth). Once the area is numb, we delicately suture the new gum tissue in place. After completion of the grafting procedure, new blood vessels grow into the graft and help it integrate with surrounding soft tissue. Pinhole Surgical Technique (PST)
